Heading back down from Portland was pretty beautiful on the coast. We had to stop for some pictures just to take it all in...
We weren't totally sure how far we'd drive before needing a place to stay for the night so we played it by ear and surprisingly made it pretty far, so we went ahead and pushed along to the Avenue of Giants, where we stayed at what turned out to be one of the creepiest Inns alive.

Scenic doesn't begin to describe this drive :) |
From this picture of the bedroom at the Inn, you'd think is was a typical quaint B&B type place.
Until you saw the display box in the hall way just outside of our room...

AHHHHHH!!! |
The Inn Keeper was a really sweet guy, but he had his 3 small kids there with him and the smallest was a 3 year old girl who kept trying to touch Hailey and talked with a sort of lisp, so when she told us about the Inn we weren't sure if she was saying "guests" or "ghosts". Needless to say we stayed the night, slept with one eye open at all times, and then got the heck out of there first thing in the morning.
Onto less horrifying parts of the trip, Joe was a little pee-your-pants excited when he learned that there were trees so large here that you could drive through them. And drive through them we DID!

He couldn't be smiling any bigger |
Wait for it...
Almost there…
Can't handle the anticipation!!!
|
Even Hailey back there could hardly keep calm for this... |
AND WE'RE THERE! IN A TREE!!!
|
Tight squeeze! |

Lifetime Dream Achieved. |
So we drove through a tree. I had no idea my husband was so excited for this moment, but apparently he was and now he can sleep soundly at night knowing he has successfully driven through a tree.
There were a couple more touristy spots at the drive-thru-tree place, so we obviously checked them out….

Inside the Tree House |
The Avenue of Giants was absolutely breathtaking so we stopped for a little hike. Getting off our butts after so much driving was just a bonus.

A little perspective |

That's one big trunk! |

Last pic before we got back in the car and headed home. |
And that was it. Our 5 night road trip with our 2 month old was completely incredible. Almost makes me want to have another baby just so I can get some more maternity leave and do this again! (Almost)
